Frequently asked questions
- Can I use PerfectPalette without an account?
- Yes. The palette editor is fully functional without signing up. Create an account when you want to save palettes and access your work across devices.
- What happens when I hit a free plan limit?
- You'll see a clear prompt to upgrade. Your existing work is never deleted or locked — you just can't create new items beyond the limit until you upgrade or delete older ones.
- What's the difference between Plus and Pro?
- Plus unlocks color system features: OKLCH scales, role mapping, gradients, preview, AI review, and PDF exports. Pro adds everything in Plus, plus the full design system workflow — design.md authoring with typography, spacing, component profiles, iconography, guardrails, MCP access, and publish & share.
- What is design.md?
- design.md is a canonical design specification file produced by our 8-step Pro workflow. It captures your palette, typography, spacing, component styles, iconography, and guardrails in structured markdown that AI coding tools like Claude, Cursor, and Copilot can consume directly — so they build on-brand code from day one. PerfectPalette's output is designed to match Google's official @google/design.md format, is tested for linter compatibility, and can be bootstrapped from Tailwind configs, DTCG JSON, CSS files, or any URL with a published design.md.
- Does PerfectPalette's design.md actually pass Google's official linter?
- Yes — exports include YAML front matter, the canonical 8-section order, and Google's token names (on-surface, surface, headline-display, body-md). The generated output is designed to be spec-compliant with @google/design.md and is tested for linter compatibility.
- Can I cancel Plus or Pro anytime?
- Yes. Cancel from your account settings at any time. You'll keep your plan's access until the end of your billing period, then revert to the Free plan.
- What export formats are included in Free?
- Free includes 27+ formats: CSS, JSON, SCSS, Tailwind, Figma, Adobe ASE/ACO, Procreate, Canva, SVG/PNG swatch, SwiftUI, Kotlin, Android XML, Flutter, W3C Design Tokens, Material Design 3, Python, and Markdown. PDF exports require Plus or Pro.
- What is the AI assistant (MCP)?
- PerfectPalette provides 9 tools for Claude via the Model Context Protocol. You can validate palettes, generate mood-based colors, check WCAG compliance, generate spec-compliant design.md files, and more — directly from your AI workflow. MCP access requires Pro.
- Is there an API?
- Pro users get API key access for programmatic use. The same tools available through MCP are accessible via authenticated API endpoints.
