Color Library

The Color Library contains over 50,000 named colors that you can browse, search, and use in your palettes.

Browsing colors

Navigate to Colors in the main navigation to open the library.

Each color card shows:

  • The color swatch
  • The color name
  • Hex value
  • Keyword tags (e.g., "warm", "cool", "neutral")

Searching

Use the search bar to find colors by:

  • Name — Type part of a color name (e.g., "coral", "midnight").
  • Keyword — Search by descriptive tags (e.g., "earthy", "pastel").
  • Hex code — Enter a hex value (e.g., #FF6347). If no exact match exists, PerfectPalette shows the nearest named color.

Filtering

Narrow results using the filter controls:

  • Hue family — Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Brown, or Neutral.
  • Collection — Filter by curated collection.
  • Theme — Filter by color theme.

Sorting

Sort results by:

  • Name (A-Z or Z-A)
  • Hue
  • Lightness
  • Saturation
  • Newest

Color details

Click any color to view its detail panel:

  • Color conversions — See the color in RGB, HSL, HSV, LAB, LCH, and OKLCH.
  • About the color — A short profile covering the color's character, psychology, and practical contrast guidance with real WCAG ratios.
  • Scales and variations — View tints, shades, and tones derived from the color.
  • Psychology and symbolism — Learn about the emotional associations of the color.
  • Inspired palettes — See palette suggestions built around the color.

Adding colors to your palette

Add to Palette appears in two places: on any color's detail page, and on the nearest-match panel shown when a hex search finds no exact result. In both cases it adds that color to your working palette and opens the editor.

When you search by hex and there is no exact match, the button adds the hex you typed — not the nearest named color it found. The nearest name is there to identify your color, and its name links to its own page if you want that one instead.

Downloading swatches

Every color page offers free swatch downloads — no account required:

  • PNG — A swatch card image with the color, its conversions, and the tint/shade scale.
  • SVG — The same card as a scalable vector file.
  • JSON — A machine-readable file with all conversions plus the tint/shade and tone scales, ready to drop into a build script or design tool.

These single-color downloads are separate from palette exports in the editor and don't count against any export quota.

Favorites

Click the star icon on any color card to add it to your personal favorites. Favorites are saved to your account.
